![]() If you dedicate yourself to learning, you’ll be playing it A LOT and you’re going to want to take it with you everywhere you go. When you first learn to play acoustic guitar, you’re going to need an instrument that can take a bit of a beating. The bottom line is that, when it comes to comfort, a smaller body size with a quality build and neck set up will be easier to play during the learning phase. I still have that guitar, for sentimental reasons, but I rarely play it, even though I can now. It just wasn’t the best beginner guitar for me. Not to mention that my first guitar was a Dreadnought – one of the biggest body sizes you can get. It also had a big, fat neck which was difficult for me to navigate with my small, inexperienced hands. Looking back, I wish my first guitar teacher had taken the time to explain that the action on that first guitar was too high – meaning I had to press the strings down much harder than I should have to make the notes and chords sounds good, and that I was using strings that were too heavy for a beginner (2). Then, many years later, I bought a quality guitar (1) that didn’t hurt my fingers nearly as much and I’ve been playing it now for 21 years. I spent $50 on my first guitar in the mid-1990’s and, while I will never get rid of it, it was so uncomfortable and painful to play, as a beginner, that I never even made to past my third lesson. Now, I know I’m not making this sound very appealing but, trust me, it’s worth it! And there’s good news – if you start out with the right guitar, it can make all the difference in the world between sticking with it or quitting. I’m not going to sugar coat it, folks, your fingers are going to hurt. And the tips of your fretting hand fingers (the hand that pushes the strings down to form notes and chords) will be sore for a while before you build up callouses and they become desensitized to the pressure against the strings. Why? Well, playing the acoustic guitar will tap into muscles (especially in the hands) that may not otherwise be used every day. Outstanding playing action and sound. When every acoustic guitar player starts out - and I mean EVERY acoustic guitar player (yes - even those that went on to become the best players in the world) – it’s going to be uncomfortable. The guitar will be shipped by Fedex Ground insured to a confirmed paypal address in the Continental USA or wherever the Ebay Global shipping program will ship to. You'll see a bunch of actual reviews and demos. BTW-if you're not familiar with these guitars, log onto youtube and do a search for. I have seen some that were not as clean as this one sell for $500. I'm starting this auction at the lowest price I've seen one of these sell for in the last 5 years or so. It is in mint condition overall except for 2 tiny finish bumps on the lower sides-see pics 3 and 4. This guitar is very close to mint NOS-notice that the clear plastic cover is still on the pick guard. The action is nice and the whole saddle is intact, so the playability and sound are very high quality, so much so that if the headstock said CF Martin & Co, Nazareth Pa and had the serial number and label inside, I would think it played and sounded like a typical D-28 from the 90's. I think It could be believed that they were produced by the Sigma division in Asia, but the finish is not the same as I've noticed on the 12 or so D-28's that I've owned down through the years. All sorts of rumors surrounding the origin of these amazing quality copies surfaced, including one that said that Martin themselves produced these as white label versions for Marlboro. One of the most popular was a dead on copy of a Martin D-28 with a fitted gig bag. In the 90's, Marlboro Cigarettes offered premiums for customer loyalty.
